The last railroad war in the U.S. occurred when the Oregon Trunk R.R. and the Deschutes R.R. constructed competing lines up the Deschutes River from the Columbia to Central Oregon. The Oregon Trunk R.R. won the race reaching Metolius first. At Metolius the to competing lines joined and shared track south to Bend. This depot served both railroads and was constructed in 1911. The Depot has been moved a short distance to it’s current location.
