As the City of Joliet rapidly grew westward in the 1990's, the Joliet Public Library opened a "Popular Materials Outlet" in the Louis Joliet Mall in 1995.
It soon became apparent an “Outlet” was going to be insufficient to meet the demands of this growing part of the community.
In 2002, a 36,000 square foot Branch Library on Black Road was opened, and the Outlet at the Louis Joliet Mall was closed.
The library not only provides the normal resource and circulation materials and internet access, but also has space for lap-sit reading programs for pre-readers, and expansive meeting space for special programs the library hosts.
