The Dothan Airport originally opened for commercial flights in 1965. Prior to that, it was named Napier Filed and served as a training airport for American and British pilots during World War II. A few years later members of the Mexican Army began flight training in P-40s.

The airport is currently served by Atlantic Southeast Airlines which offers 6 daily flights to Atlanta.
