Erected in 1852, this building housed one of the oldest and largest banks of early-day California.
The bank was founded by Darius Ogden Mills (1825-1910). Born in North Salem, Westchester County, New York, Mills was one of the earliest victims of the gold fever, sailing for California in December, 1848.
This is one of four California Historical Landmarks that were destroyed when Interstate 5 was built in Sacramento. The location is now on the edge of parking lot under the freeway.
