This interpretive center has extensive displays of this estuarine preserve with exhibits of the flora, fauna, geography, and climate. There is also a meeting room for educational programs. Excellent hiking trails also begin here.

The mission of South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is to improve the understanding and stewardship of Pacific Northwest estuaries and coastal watersheds. The 4,800 acre Reserve encompasses a mixture of open water channels, tidal and freshwater wetlands, riparian areas, and forested uplands. SSNERR actively supports and coordinates research, education, and stewardship programs which serve to enhance a scientific and public understanding of estuaries and contribute to improved estuarine management.
At the main entrance to the Reserve, you can find the Interpretive Center and several trails. We are located four miles south of Charleston, Oregon, on Seven Devils Road. Just follow the binoculars on the road signs! Located one mile south of the South Slough Interpretive Center, the south entrance to the Reserve provides access to additional trails and historical sites
The Interpretive Center is open daily in summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. From Labor Day through Memorial Day, the Interpretive Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Exceptions include national and state holidays.
