This Viquesney Doughboy stands on the northwest corner of the courthouse lawn in the sculptor's hometown of Spencer, Indiana. According to doughboysearcher.com, the statue was dedicated on May 29, 1927, five years after Viquesney returned to Spencer from Americus, Georgia.
The Spencer Viquesney is of pressed copper and appears to have been painted with copper-colored paint. The rifle was damaged by vandals in fall of 2008. There are plans to repair the damage.
Two tablets on the base appear to be original to the 1927 unveiling. A dedication tablet on the front of the pedestal reads: "In grateful recognition of the patriotic service rendered by the men and women of Owen County during the World War 1917-1918". On the back of the pedestal is a tablet naming the Owen County war dead from 1917-1918.
A third tablet was affixed to the base after WWII listing Owen County residents who were missing or killed in action in that conflict.
