Marker Text:
MISSILE SITE
First intercontinental ballistic missile site
east of the Mississippi River.
Built 1960-1962 by the U.S. Air Force.
The marker, placed by the New York-Vermont Interstate Commission, is on the property of a Vermont Welcome Center; the actual site, which is now the Alburgh Town Highway Garage, is roughly 600 yards beyond the sign at the end of Missile Base Road.
This facility held an Atlas F and was manned by the 556th Strategic Missile Squadron under the 380th Strategic Air Wing, stationed at nearby Plattsburgh Air Force Base, which itself is no longer operational.
