The viewpoint is on a footpath from Howgill up onto Cold Fell and overlooks beautiful moorland, the Solway Firth and up to Scotland.

Bruthwaite Woodland and the surrounding meadows and tarn form part of the Geltsdale bird watching reserve.
Parking is available at N54 55.161 W2 38.600. From there it is about a mile walk first along a track up the miners cottages and then up a steep footpath to the viewpoint. The walk to the viewpoint should take about 45 minutes.
