As was St. Lucy's parish in Houma, St. Luke's parish was originally formed to serve African American communities as far away as Klotzville (about 25 miles north) to Schriever (about 8 mile south). Parish was formed in 1923, closed in 1967 because of the Archdiocese of New Orleans' desire to implement integration in all the Catholic churches. It was reopened in 1986. St. Luke was linked to St. Lucy in Houma in June 2007.
