The BC Aviation Museum is well worth a visit. Here they have restored and preserved over 25 vintage and replica aircraft representing BC's aviation history. The museum is staffed by volunteers. Some are well informed guides; some work on the restoration projects. All are enthusiastic.
I was impressed by the following:
The Gibson twin plane replica of the first aircraft designed and flown in Canada, on Vancouver Island in 1910
The WWI replicas including a Nieuport 17 and RAF SE 5A,
The old bush planes including a Fleet Model 2, Eastman Sea Rover, Noordyne Norseman.
The WWII planes including a Spitfire replica, a Bristol Bolingbroke bomber, an AVRO Anson.
Postwar planes including a T-33 jet trainer, a TCA Vickers Vicount and "Flying Phil's" PacAero Tradewind, a modified Beech 18.
This is just a partial list. There are many more on display and others in progress. The restoration work by volunteers is amazing. Over the years I have watched the restoration of the T-33 jet from a couple of salvaged wrecks to a fully functional aircraft. They stopped short of obtaining an MOT Certificate of Airworthiness due to the prohibitive cost for certification and insurance. A new display hanger is now open and contains the Vickers Viscount a DeHavilland Chipmunk, Piper Cherokee and Auster AOP 6.
Follow the signs to the Victoria airport but swing off before the main terminal onto Canora Rd and watch for the "Tourist Attraction BC Aviation Museum" signs.
