This is one of many granite posts used to mark the "corner" points on the boundary lines between towns in Massachusetts, in this case, the City of Beverly and the Town of Wenham. It is about three feet high. The letter "B" (for Beverly) is engraved on one side, and the letter "W" (for Wenham) is engraved on the other side.
To reach the marker, take exit 17 (Grapevine Road) off route 128. Drive toward Beverly Farms about 0.3 miles, and enter the driveway to Massachusetts Audubon's Endicott Wildlife Sanctuary. Drive to the end and park in front of the building. Enter the woods on the left, heading WSW, SW, and then S to the marker. (Keep to the right, and don't go a straight line route if you want to keep your feet dry.) Just east of the marker is a small pond with a bridge across the middle, and beyond that is a private home.
The next adjacent marker heading northeast is
Beverly-Wenham 2, 0.1 mile.
The next adjacent marker heading northwest is
Beverly-Wenham 4, 0.5 mile.
