The Reverend Dr Thomas Goulding established the First Presbyterian Theological Seminary southwest of Virginia and the South in December 1828 with 5 students in this very building. Three years later the Seminary moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where the first class graduated in 1832 at the Columbia Theological Seminary. In 1927, 99 years later, the Seminary moved to Decatur, Georgia.
