The first bridge, built in 1810, was carried away by the 1818 flood and replaced that same year. It was again destroyed by a flood in 1828. The third bridge was erected in 1829 and remained in use until 1849, when it was dismantled and replaced by the current bridge.
This bridge was rebuilt by the state and the Town of Bath in 1977 at a cost of $34,347.
In earlier years, this section of the river was used to float logs to the sawmill and logjams often presented a hazard to the bridge. Once, dynamite was used to break a jam, and while the blast was successful, logs had to be removed from the roof of the bridge.
