This monument commemorates Judge John Glanville (1542-1600). He was the first Attorney-at-Law to rise to the rank of High Court Judge. In 1598 he was elevated to the position of Justice of Common Pleas. He as MP for Tavistock in 1586 and nearby Launceston in 1588.
It is considered to be one of the finest church monuments in the West of England dating from the 17th century. The monument was erected by his wife, Alice, who had mean time re-married and been widowed again. It is she who knees in front of the monument facing the altar.
