Janus is the ancient Roman god of gates, doors, beginnings, endings and time. The month January is named after him. Usually he is depicted with two heads or two faces looking in opposite directions; the future and the past.
However, this Janus a large bronze sculpture created in 1962 by Otto Charles Bänninger has his second head lying at his feet.
