The Mount Holly Cemetery dates to 1843 when the 20 acres of land were deeded by Chester Ashley and Roswell Beebe, to the city of Little Rock. The cemetery has been nicknamed "The Westminster Abbey of Arkansas" reflective of the number of Arkansas notables interred in the cemetery. The notables include 10 former Governors of Arkansas, 6 United States Senators, 14 Arkansas Supreme Court Justices, 21 Little Rock Mayors, numerous Arkansas literary figures, and Confederate Generals. The cemetery had several thousand graves. Along with the many notables buried in the cemetery the cemetery is known for it Victorian art grave markers. The cemetery welcomes visitors to it grounds.
