The original log cabin church was built in 1836, when French Canadian pioneers arrived on the French Prairie in the Willamette Valley and built the structure along the Willamette River near the Methodist Mission. It was later moved to St. Paul, Oregon and served as the church there until it burnt down, about 1846, and was replaced by a church that was built from brick.
