The statue of Major General Clarence Ransom Edwards, is located on the western side of the Connecticut State Capitol building.

The Major General Clarence Ransom Edwards was the World War I commander of the U.S. Army's 26th Division, the "Yankee Division", which was composed of National Guard troops from all six New England states.

The General is standing on a bronze platform on top of a cubic granite pedestal. He is wearing a World War I era military uniform, with a military cap, overcoat, and knee-high boots with spurs. He is standing at attention with his arms straight down and his fists clenched.

The 7' by 3' by 2.5' bronze statue rests on a pedestal which is 3.5" on each side. It was created by George H. Snowden with funding from the State Commission on Sculpture.

A plaque even with the ground below the sculpture is inscribed:

THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED BY THE STATE
OF CONNECTICUT AND DEDICATED MAY 30 1942.

He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, (D.S.M.) for his service in World War I in 1937, six years after his death. Camp Edwards, a Massachusetts National Guard training camp in Falmouth, Massachusetts, was named after him in 1938.

Statue appears to be in good shape. The date on the plaque is 1917 --- 1918 and not 1917 - 1978 as appears in the SIRIS Inventory
