A-27L «Centaur-I» is a British tank used in WWII. It´s a redesign of the "Cromwell" Tank. Originally the "Cromwell" (A-27M, M from Meteor)was designed to use the Meteor engine from Rolls Royce Merlin (based on the engine used in the Spitfire fighter), but, due to lack of availability the tank was redesign to use a Leyland Engine, the Liberty (A-27L).
The first A-27L were delivered to the Portuguese Army before the end of WWII, in 1945 and were used untill 1955 when they were replaced by the M-47 Patton.
This vehicle is in display at the entrance of of the Lanceiros nº2 Headquarters. It´s hidden (ambushed) behind a wall, on the left side and you only see it when you aproach the gate.
Location restrictions: Tank is in display outside military instalations, in public area and i don´t believe that there will be any problem taking pictures and look at the tanks. If anyone ask just answer. Militar are normally friendly in Portugal.
