The stainless steel sculpture, was intended to be a reflective point of interest and a marker for a view point, along the Millennium coastal park.
There is no plaque, on this abstract sculpture, but the base is engraved with the words 'Millennium Coastal Park'
I have been told that the sculpture is called "Reflections" The Sculpture does reflect the changes in colour as the Sun sets. It was intended to repair the nearby Burry Port lighthouse, & shine the beam from the light on the sculpture, but it never happened.
I have also been told that its called 'Point of Interest' because
On June 18, 1928, Amelia Earhart touched down in the Loughor estuary, just off this point & was towed into Burry port Harbour, after an exhausting 21-hour flight from Newfoundland, and became the first woman to fly the Atlantic Ocean. There ia a plaque in Burry port Harbour, where she stepped ashore.
Other names given to me by locals are, The Spike, and, The Needle.
The Millennium Coastal Park occupies approximately 10 miles of coastline on the Loughor and Burry Estuarys. The park runs adjacent to the towns of Llanelli and Burry Port, the park offers superb views along its length of the Loughor Estuary and Gower Peninsula. The Gower was the first designated area of outstanding natural beauty in the UK.
The Coastal Park offers many unique features including a continuous traffic-free cycle/footpath, the National Wetlands Centre for Wales, and a championship links golf course. Burry Port and Pembre harbour’s plus Millennium Quay and the Discovery Centre.
The park attracts over one million visitors a year, which makes it one of the most popular visitor destinations in the UK, as well as a centre for a host of outdoor pursuits.
