KINGSTON
Kingston is a municipality in Ontario (Canada). In the 2006 census, there counted for the city, 117,207 and the region 152,358 people.
Fort Frontenac, now Kingston, is the ancient capital, ephemeral, Canada. It is now primarily English-speaking (Francophone community of about 5000 people).
Kingston is a popular tourist destination, partly because it is located at the beginning of the Thousand Islands.
Kingston is located at the junction of the St. Lawrence River, the Rideau Canal and Lake Ontario.
Kingston is 260 miles from Toronto via Highway 401 (the Macdonald-Cartier), 290 km from Montreal via Highway 20 in Quebec and 180 km of Ottawa.
Kingston is also the southern terminus of the Rideau Canal waterway into service to connect Lake Ontario to the Ottawa River to divert shipping from the border of the United States.
