Sited as it is alongside the 'Hugin', a
replica Viking long ship that was sailed from Denmark to Broadstairs on July
28th 1949 to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the landing of the
Anglo-Saxon Chieftains Hengist and Horsa, this commemoration stone was unveiled
by His Highness Prince George of Denmark the day after the 'Hugin' arrived in
Broadstairs . Perhaps it was because of the placement of this commemorative
stone here at Pegwell Bay that the 'Hugin' was placed on permanent display here
as well in 1950. The inscription reads;
