This house was built for Dr. John C. Griffith and his wife Kate Dalrymple Griffith. Mr. Griffith was the son of Waldo Hills pioneer Lewis C. Griffith, who had come to Oregon by wagon train in 1850. Mrs. Griffith was the daughter of J.J. Dalrymple, a prominent Salem merchant. It is believed that the house was built for the Griffiths following their marriage in 1895. The lot had belonged to J.J. Dalrymple and was officially transferred into Kate's name in 1900.

The house is a large two-story Colonial Revival-style with two-story bays on the east and west sides. Some notable features include windows with criss-cross diagonal framing and a separate garage with a fan window above the door.
