The Walter Buchner House was built in 1914 for Walter F. and Mary N. Buchner. Mr. Buchner, born in Wisconsin, was the son of a German immigrant who brought his family to Oregon in 1872 and settled on a farm in Marion County. Walter Buchner operated a 160 acre hops farm south of Salem and in 1903 established a feed store and mill, building most of the plant and installing the machinery himself. Buchner married May Newsome, a Marion County native, in 1896. This Bungalow remained in the family until 1942.
