The house on this lot was built in 1909 and sold to Emma Holmes, a photographer, in 1910. Future Oregon Governor Charles A. Sprague, then editor-manager of the Oregon Statesman, lived in the house while his home on the northwest corner of Center and 14th streets was under construction. Later, George C. Alexander, deputy superintendent of the Oregon State Police and eventually warden at the Oregon State Penitentiary, also lived here.
