Inspired by the Georgian houses found in the middle colonies, this mansion was built for Dr. Harvey J. Clements, a physician and surgeon, and his wife Ethel in 1923. Clements studied medicine at New Orleans medical school, where he later became the school's President. For several years he taught pathology at Willamette University medical school and began practicing medicine in Salem in 1911. Dr. Clements died in 1941 and his second wife, Viola, sold the house in 1945. In 1968, the Union Gospel Mission purchased the property for use as a shelter for women and girls. Today it appears to provide multi-family residences.
