This Bungalow was built in 1906 for Harvey R. Scheuerman, a future Evangelical pastor who served in Washington state and in Monmouth, Oregon. In 1909 the house was sold to Ezra Maurer, presiding elder at the Salem Evangelical Church, located across the street. Maurer did not live at the house but it may have been used for church-related purposes. Maurer sold the house in 1924, and about that same time period, the Little Gem Grocery store was built on the southeast corner of the lot. The historic store was removed in 1998 and is now part of the A.C. Gilbert Discovery Village.
