The Bear and Cubs is a five-foot, black granite sculpture depicting a mother bear sitting up with her two cubs nursing between her legs. It's located in a plaza near the UCSF Medical Center. The sculpture can be seen in Google Street View. A plaque on the right side reads:

From the Smithsonian AIC Description:

Abstract figure of a mother bear nursing two cubs. She sits with her hind legs straight out in front. The two cubs are side by side and nestled between her legs, facing her. The sculpture sits on a base of polished stone, possibly red granite, which is part of a low wall.

From the Smithsonian AIC Remarks:

The sculpture was given to the university by Dr. and Mrs. Meyer Schindler and the artist to commemorate the University of California's centennial year and the tenth anniversary of the Guy S. Millberry Union. IAS files contain copy of related Jan. 7, 1969 University press release.
