Constructed in 1887, this two-story Italian Villa style house was built for Max Mueller, a Bavarian native who arrived in Jacksonville in 1855 at age 19. Mueller owned a general merchandise store as well as serving as the town's postmaster, a position he held from 1870 to 1888. He also served as city and county treasurer many times. He was also secretary of the Warren Lodge of the Freemasons for nearly 32 years.
