Constructed circa 1881, this one and one-half story Classic Revival style house was built for Gustav Karewski, a successful merchant and his wife Johanna. After Karewski's death in 1890 ownership passed to Cecelia Levy Maegly, daughter of Johanna Karewski (from a previous marriage).
