Kežmarok Coat of Arms is installed above side-entrance to the city hall. It was granted to town by
king Matej I. Korvín in May 1463.
Matej Korvin also granted the town the right to use red wax in sealing.
Shield is divided horizontally with the lower half of
two red and
two (originally) black bars.
The top half displays two crossed
black swords with red handles in blue field with the
red rose symbol below and the
golden crown with five visible leaves above.
Swords should symbolize the right to bear arms - guttural right (granted to Kežmarok in 1438 by King Albert, the successor of Sigismund of Luxembourg).
Crown symbolizes a royal city .
Full shape of the coat of arms includes a
shield-bearer - the angel who holds the shield in front of him by stretched hands.
Slovak description:
Plný tvar erbu zahàòa ešte štítonosa - kežmarský erb má jediného štítonosa, a síce anjela, ktorý štít drží pred sebou v predpažených rukách.
