While Stanley Marsh 3 is probably best known for his Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, he has another unique work of art in the area. It is called the Floating Mesa. He has taken hundreds of pieces of plywood and painted them blue like the sky and placed them on the side of a mesa to make the appearance that part of the mesa floats. Pretty interesting site.

Mr. Marsh passed away June 17, 2014. There will be no one to make sure the plywood is kept painted!

Smithsonian Art Inventory

"Site-installation of a 384 foot long steel wall, consisting of steel panels bolted to I-beams which are set in a concrete foundation. The wall, which surrounds the top of a mesa, is painted blue. Andrew Leicester, was the sculptor."
