John's Evangelical Lutheran Church was built in 1900 replacing an earlier church
completed in 1890 and destroyed by a tornado May 27, 1899. The church was
a center of Danish-Americans and was associated with the folk school
philosophies of the Danish religious leader, poet, and historian N. F. S.
