As the stone reads:

The Plains Grizzly Bear

The bear, an integral part of the Aboriginal Sacred Circle of Creation was once a formidable presence in the Eagle Creek area. It became a commodity in the fur trade. The bear brought James Carnegie, the 9th Earl of South Esk in Scotland to the Bad Hill on his adventure through the Hudson Bay Territories. South Esk shot his trophy bear here on July 20, 1859. With the demise of the Buffalo, the Plains Grizzly vanished from the rapidly changing praire.
