The Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden is located in a wash in the Sonoran desert. Originally the site of a watering tank and a line cabin for the P Bar ranch. The garden includes a defunct dam. The trail meanders amongst the boulders and plants as it loops out to the dam and back. Signs identify the plants and some of the geology along the trail and the history of the dam. The trail is .6 miles one way with an elevation gain of 50'. At the beginning of the trail there is a descriptive sign with brochures. In the winter the trail makes for an easy walk. During the summer visitors should expect to carry plenty of water, move slowly and be aware of the dangers of the sonoran desert.
