Konrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer (* 5. Januar 1876 in Köln; † 19.

Konrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer, 5 January 1876 – 19 April 1967) was a German statesman who served as the first post-war Chancellor of Germany (West Germany) from 1949 to 1963. He led his country from the ruins of World War II to a productive and prosperous nation that forged close relations with France, the United Kingdom and the United States. During his years in power West Germany achieved democracy, stability, international respect and economic prosperity ("Wirtschaftswunder", German for "economic miracle"). He was the first leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), a Christian Democratic party that under his leadership became one of the most influential parties in the country. (Source: Wikipedia)
A deep friendship connected both politicians. Charles de Gaulle was the only foreign statesman who was invited to Adenauer's private estate.
In May, 2002 two bronze statues of De Gaulle and Adenauer were placed in the garden of the "Adenauer-Haus" in Rhöndorf and were initiated with a ceremony. The "Deutsch-Französischen Kulturstiftung" (German-French cultural endowment) allowed to create larger-than-life statues of de Gaulle and Adenauer by Hungarian artist Imre Varga. Both statues are more than 2m high.
The Adenauerhaus is a memorial and can be visited within the scope of excursions. After Adenauer's death his heirs transferred the reduction and the property to the Federal Republic of Germany. The private property was made publicly accessible within the scope of excursions. Since April, 2017 a modern, diversified exhibition on the life and work of Konrad Adenauer is to be visited in the big museum building below the dwelling house.
