NOTE: As this is a private school property, it would be best to advise school administration of your presence and your desire to look at the WPA buildings. Be selective with your photos so as not to interfere with school children or activities.

The coordinates given above are for the entrance to this area, which is about three miles southwest of Hugo. Although this was a Presbyterian orphanage and Indian mission, it was consolidated with the local school system and thus, was eligible for WPA funding. The WPA constructed three buildings on the campus.

WADE HALL: The first building you encounter as you enter is Wade Hall. This is currently a private residence and should not be approached. This is a two-story building which once was used as a dormitory. It is constructed of uncut and uncoursed native sand stone. The roof is gabled, and there are several cross gables, with a covered porch at the rear. Windows are groups in twos ad threes, with wood framing.

GYM/AUDITORIUM: This is a large 2-story native sandstone building, with a gabled roof, and two large cross gables. The windows are all covered with wood boarding. The entrance has two wood doors, with a stone arch and keystone. The building does not appear to be used at this time.

CLASSROOM: This is a 4-room classroom building. It is one-story building with a gabled roof and constructed of native sandstone. The entrance is recessed under an arched portico with two wood doors. The wood framed windows are not covered and it appears this building may be in use today.

The WPA constructed these three buildings in the period from 1936 to 1939. Next to the classroom building is a frame church building originally used by the Goodland mission in the mid-1800s.
