This is a traditional Confederate Memorial like those found in many counties in the South. It was erected in 1910. The area around the base is nicely landscaped.
The main inscription reads:
TO THE
CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS
OF GREENSVILLE COUNTY
1861-1865
WHO, IN DEFENCE OF RIGHTS
THEY BELIEVED SACRED
TOOK UP ARMS AGAINST
THE INVADERS OF VIGINIA"THE GLORY DIES NOT, AND
THE GRIEF IS PAST."
See the gallery for detail photos of the inscriptions.
