The F-105 Thundercheif was also known as the "Thud" or "Iron Butterfly". It was a single-seat supersonic fighter/bomber.
Originally in 1960, the F-105D's had many engine problems and the entire fleet was grounded several times. Even though Project Look Alike in 1962, fixed many things they still had a lot of problems until 1967.
The plaque has fallen off. This plane can only be viewed from the cadet area lookout next to the chapel. From the visitors center coordinates N 39°00.438 W 104°53.699 take the Chapel Trail.
