British Columbia’s historic places – buildings, other structures, landscapes, historic districts, and other places – are crucial to our understanding, appreciation, and sustainability of our communities. By conserving and celebrating these places, we value our communities, our future, and ourselves.

British Columbia has many historic sites that showcase the province's colourful history. At these places, visitors can experience and learn about B.C.

When you encounter a site that has been marked by the Province we invite you to waymark it, take a picture of the area and document some of the interesting facts that you have learned from the signage placed there. There are many places to visit and learn about this exciting province and our history.

Markers Placed by Other Agencies

There are numerous historic markers that have been placed on buildings through the designation by British Columbia or by the local municipality.

If you are waymarking another type of marker such as those placed by another government agency, historical societies, counties, cities, federal agencies, other group you must provide suitable historic reference information in the long description to provide this visitor with information about that site.

That information should provide relevant information with respect to why the building, structure or place received its designation.

Instructions for Posting a British Columbia Heritage Markers Waymark:
When logging a new waymark please include information about why the historical marker is there and a picture of the marker and the area around it. Add any additional information you can about the history of this waymark, maybe it is something you never knew about the area and British Columbia.

When entering a new log for visiting a waymark please provide a picture of your visit to the location and if you have an interesting alternate area or sign photo include that.
