Stone Church Artefacts
Description:
This category is for stone church artefacts, objects can be entered in this category from within and around churches. We are looking for unusual objects; we do not want it to be a category of duplicate waymarks. Frieze art is an exception.
Expanded Description:

Baptism Fonts

A Baptism Font serves as a receptacle for baptismal water. The type we are looking for is a "decorative stone basin", supported on a pedestal or column.

Stone Lecterns

A lectern is a reading desk with a slanted top, usually placed on a stand on which documents or books are placed as support for reading aloud, as in a scripture reading, lecture, or sermon.

Preserved Coffin Lids

These can be found “on show” in the church (not on a grave) the ones we are looking for are several hundred years old and made of stone.

Church Lych Gate Coffin Stones

The lych gate coffin stone is within a porch or entrance to the churchyard where the coffin bearers placed the coffin on a wide seat, whilst waiting for the priest and the rest of the funeral cortege. These stones were in the centre of the entrance.

Piscinas

A stone basin with a drain for carrying away the water used in ceremonial ablutions. We are looking for decorative types.

Note: Spelling of category name uses Oxford English interpretation.

Instructions for Posting a Stone Church Artefacts Waymark:
Please research your artefact and provide any historical information you can find to create a good waymark. If making a permitted quote please give credit to the originator of the text.

Co-ords should be taken from the entrance of the church.

Two photos should be added, that you have taken yourself, one close up of the object and another of the general area with the object in the photo if possible.

Any other unusual stone object will be considered by the officers. Their decision will be final.
We will NOT accept objects which have their own category, such as churches, crosses, windows, bells, towers, clocks, sundials etc.
Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
Please supply an original picture when visiting this waymark.
