Description:: Our goal at U.S. Post Offices is to locate and waymark as many of these fine government establishments as possible.
Large or small, we want to see them all.

Expanded Description:

Any U.S. Government sanctioned Post Office is eligible for waymarking here. From the tiny one room rural ones, to the huge "city block" sized. The structure must be designated as a U.S. Post Office to fit the category.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

NOTE: CATEGORY MANAGERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECLINE ANY WAYMARKS THAT DO NOT FIT THE DESCRIPTION REQUIREMENTS ABOVE. "DRIVE-BY" SUBMISSIONS THAT DO NOT FULFILL THE REQUIREMENTS AND ARE BELOW ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS WILL BE DENIED APPROVAL.

We are also accepting retired post offices, as long as there is some original signage that proves that it once was a U.S. Post Office, such as: the original signage is still in place or, a plaque is affixed at or on the building that proves it was once a post office.
This category will also include, for historical purposes and to add interest to the category, "former" U.S. Post Offices and/or the original location of a no longer existing, yet historically significant U.S. Post Office. There must be sufficient documentation that proves that the location was, in fact, the site of a U.S. Post Office. This documentation will need to be included in the waymark submission. Acceptable documentation may include, but not be limited to: official signage, historic plaque(s), monuments or markers, and/or websites detailing the history of the specified location. Approval of these submissions will be on a case by case basis, after category management has had time to review and verify the imformation.
These submissions should be named in such a way that fully indicates that the waymark is either a "retired" or "former" Post Office, or that the site was the "historic location" of a U.S. Post Office. If you are not sure of how to name the waymark submission, contact category management for possible suggestions.

Instructions for Posting a U.S. Post Offices Waymark:

All posts to this category must include the gps coord's. along with at least one picture showing the building with the words U.S. Post Office and the city or town in which it is located clearly visible in the photo. (Revision 7/2010 - a picture of the entire building would be greatly appreciated, however, those submissions that DO NOT have either a "full building shot", or DO NOT have the location signage, will be reviewed by the category management on a case by case basis). Including yourself or your gps in the picture is not neccesary but is acceptable. PLEASE INCLUDE THE CITY, STATE AND ZIPCODE IN YOUR WAYMARK NAME. This way, they will all have a uniform name. Also please include the following details in your waymark submission: Street address, City, State, and Zip Code-(I know, it sounds like a broken record). If the Post Office is located inside a mall or other similar indoor setting, you should also include the name of the mall/facility in your waymark description so others may be able to find it if they desire. Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:

To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
