Arboretums
Managed By: Icon Here Arboretums
Description:
An arboretum is a botanical garden primarily devoted to the cultivation of trees and other woody plants, often rare ones, forming a living collection intended for scientific study, educational, and ornamental purposes.
Expanded Description:
Any waymarks describing established official Arboretums may be placed in this category.
Instructions for Posting a Arboretums Waymark:
Making a special visit to the arboretum to record a waymark is not necessary. If there is an arboretum that you frequent, that you can get accurate coordinates for from some source (Google Earth or Mapsource for instance) without physically visiting the park, and you have visited the park at some time in the past, and you can reasonably accurately complete all of the variables on the waymark, you are encouraged to record it. (You may not however log this waymark as visited, until you make a special trip to it).
The reason for this is to get lots of official arboretum waymarks in this category - the more the better. We want to help people find arboretums close to them that they might not otherwise know about. It’s seems a shame not to record one just because you haven't made a special trip with the GPS and camera. When describing your waymark, you should have enough information there that someone could find the arboretum without their GPS.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
A waymark may not be logged as visited, until the finder makes a trip to it.

To log this waymark, you must be able to prove to the waymark owner that you were at the arboretum in question.

Post a photo of an identifiably part of the Arboretum, having your GPS in the photo would be a good idea. In addition, but optional, you may include a a photo and latitude/longitude coordinates of a favorite tree/shrub specimen.
