Static Aircraft Displays
 allows ratings
Description:
This category is for aircraft of the world, both civilian and military, that are on permanent display at airports, in parks, at museums, and many other places.
Expanded Description:

The purpose of this category is not only to find these aircraft but to also try and find out some history behind each aircraft. This can only be done by researching the tail number (serial number) of the aircraft and asking questions. That number is an important part of the find and will be to be part of the waymark if at all possible.

There are a few Aircraft that have been repainted or reconstructed to look like a famous aircraft. These can be waymarked as long as it is noted in the description as a clone. Include the aircraft's orginal serial number if known.

Replicas can also be used as long as it is noted in the description that it is a replica. It also should be a full scale replica or at least close to it.

If the aircraft is location inside a building the GPS coordinates of the parking lot near the building or the main door of the building is fine. If the aircraft is outside the GPS coordinates should be as close to the aircraft as possible without crossing any barriers.

This category is about history. Please provide as much information as you can to help those that follow you.

For more help on aircraft serial numbers, particularly US military aircraft, see Joe Baugher's Home Page Another useful, US specific, website is Warbirds and Airshows.

Aircraft displays on military bases will often have restricted public access - for example at annual air shows. Such displays will be accepted provided that the access restrictions are outlined in the waymark. However, please do not submit displays in restricted areas to which the public are not granted any access.
