Rock and Mineral Displays
Managed By: Icon Here The Nuggets
Description:
To document, photograph, preserve and waymark rock and mineral displays and specimens.
Expanded Description:
Acceptable waymarks will be rock and mineral displays, glacial erratics (a piece of rock that differs from the size and type of rock native to the area in which it rests), meteorite specimens, and interpretive displays.
Outdoor and indoor displays, specimans and presentations will be accepted. However, if the display is indoors, please provide coordinates to the primary entrance.
Excluded are fossils, displays or specimens that are part of a natural history museum, mines, geological sites, and impact sites. Also excluded are rock shops as a whole unless specific displays or interpretive displays can be documented or substantiated as permanent and not for sale.
All waymarks submitted must be educational and informative. This will most often be substantiated by signage or display plaques. A large boulder or rock in a garden, yard or field does not constitute a "rock or mineral" display. To be accepted as a waymark, there must be documentation (signage or plaque) detailing the geological, historical, erratic or other significant properties of the display. Gelogic information is recommended, however the display may be historic in nature without geological information.
Instructions for Posting a Rock and Mineral Displays Waymark:
Please provide a minimum of two (2) photos (if possible) - one showing the speciman or display - the other showing the educational or informative signage. If signage is unavailable, please provide a written description.
Please provide coordinates that were personally obtained.
Please provide as much information about the speciman or display that you can. Also, please explain, if possible, the significance of the rock or mineral - historical - geological - economic - local community - or geographically.
Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
When posting a visit, please provide at least one photo - including yourself in one of of the photos, your GPSr, or a photo different than the default photo.
Also, please provide your impression of the specimen or display.
