Description:: This waymarking category is to describe Dutch trig points, officially called RD meetpunten.

Expanded Description:

The Netherlands has its own geodetic system, called RijksDriehoeksmeting (Federal Triangulation) with its own coordinate system to go with it.

The current RD system has its zero point outside the country to allow all points in The Netherlands to be described using positive numbers only. The reference point for the system is the spire of the Onze Lieve Vrouwen Church in Amersfoort, close to the geographic center of the country. This point has the coordinates X = 155000 Y = 463000. Such coordinates effectively give the offset in meters from the zero point, X being the East coordinate, Y the North coordinate. For more information, check the wiki page.

Throughout the country, trig points are marked that have their exact coordinates registered to a high accuracy.

Only these trig points can be entered as waymarks in this category

There are roughly 5000 RD trig points in existence, although several must have been removed when new roads or other constructions have been built.

Trig points come in two different flavors:

Meetstenen
These are concrete blocks containing a brass marker. About 500 of these exist.
Meetpunten
These are the remaining 4500 or so markers.

In addition, throughout the country, many smaller nail like markers can be found, These are more often than not temporary markers used in construction work and are not part of the official RD system.

Instructions for Posting a Dutch Benchmarks / RD meetpunten Waymark:

The title of the waypoint should be "RD meetpunt: - " where the city name is the name of the city (village or whatever) where the point is located.

The description of any new waypoint in this category must contain the official description of the trig point as well as your own description of the location.

A photograph is required of the trig point, preferably with your GPSr showing the coordinate in the RD system.

At least one photograph must also be included of the surroundings of the trig point.
