Description:
Why was an independent republic formed in 1832 within New Hampshire and where was it? Find out by visiting NH Historical Marker No. 1. What was the historic handshake commemorated by the latest official Historical Marker No. 188? Exploring state and local historic markers of the Granite State will take you on a fascinating and educational journey.
Expanded Description:
New Hampshire Historic Markers

The first official state historic markers were created in 1958 and the most recent in 2003. There are 188 of these markers. Each is numbered (may not appear on the marker) and can be listed and sorted on this official site:

NH State Historical Markers

A private site that has extensive documentation is found at:

Stalking New Hampshire Historical Markers

Here is another listing of the official markers: Historical Markers.com

And there is even a Wikipedia entry for them:

Wikipedia

We would like to submit coordinates for all 188 official state makers to be included in the government listing.

In addition, there are numerous local and unofficial historic markers that can also be documented, so keep your eyes open.
Instructions for Posting a New Hampshire Historical Markers Waymark:
Both official state markers and local or unofficial markers may be listed here. The main requirement is a roadside sign with text describing the historical event or place. If you have other types of historical sites that you would like to include, they may be submitted and may be reorganized into another category or sub-category.

Beside the GPS obtained coordinates, which should be taken as close to the actual marker as possible, each entry should include at least the following:

1). Close-up photo of the marker. Please include the entire marker, including the seal.

2). A photo of the historic place commemorated or the general area around the marker.

NOTE: All photos must be original and must be placed in the category gallery.

3). The text of the maker

4). The number if it is an official NH marker

If you have done additional research, please include that as well, including pertinent web links. Photos must be your original work. The text may be taken from the government web site.

SPECIAL NOTE: While the details outlined in our category description, and the requirements listed in the posting instructions, cover the MINIMUM elements and standards for all waymarks in this category, each waymark will also be evaluated by a volunteer reviewer for overall quality and appropriateness. If a reviewer deems that there are deficiencies in some aspect of the waymark, the waymark may be either declined or accepted with request for changes and/or additions in either content or format.

Each waymark will be evaluated on its own merits. We will endeavor to be reasonable and flexible while maintaining the quality standards for the category. If there is a disagreement, try to work it out with the evaluating officer, or appeal to the group leader, but we reserve the right to accept or decline a waymark based on our best judgement.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
-- At least one original photo of the marker showing some of the background. (You or team members may be included, and you may submit multiple photos.)

-- Date of your visit

-- Optional: Any interesting details of your trip

-- Optional: Additional research, links, etc. relevant to the historical event, person or place commemorated.
