description/mission statement:
Freemasonry in the United States has a long but often secluded history. From possibly instigating the American Revolution to creating a vast system of 'safe-rooms' for fleeing slaves before and during the American Civil War, Freemasons have been involved in every period of our Nation's birth and growth.
One aspect of Freemasonry that is in plain view, but often misunderstood is the Masonic cornerstone. Masonic cornerstones and the ritual of placing them have been used in the construction of government buildings, churches, schools and hospitals since before our Nation was born and can help create a more vivid picture of the building that they occupy. Often employing specific signs and symbols that, at one time, meant more than the words carved into the stone.
This group is set up to find, identify, and offer a brief history of different Masonic cornerstones, their meanings, and their histories. It is our sincere hope that this project will extend to other countries, as well.
We invite you to join us and to help piece together some of the hidden puzzles left behind by those that came before us and shaped our world.
