description/mission statement:
France (Napoleon) was at war with the British, Russians, European Nations, Middle East, North Africa, and a few others. This period is called the Napoleonic Wars. The War of 1812 is a sub-part of that war.
In June of 1812 the US declared war on Britain. The war had many causes, but the center of it all, was the United Kingdom's on going war with Napoleon's France.
This category is only about this part of the larger World War.
The War of 1812 was fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Lower Canada (Quebec), Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Bermuda. This is the area of this category.
Napoleonic Wars sites and markers are NOT acceptable.
Belligerents: United States and some Indian Allies vs British Empire; United Kingdom, Canadian Provinces, Eastern Woodland Indians.
This is a history sensitive category. Tombstones could qualify, if enough history of the person is also provided. A basic tombstone, with name, dates, and a War of 1812 mention, would not be enough.
A marker, tombstone, plaque must exist. Googled information photos or sites is not acceptable.
Googled text information, such as Wikipedia, etc., is acceptable with proper credit to quoted material.
