description/mission statement:
When Willie Sutton the bank robber was asked why he robbed banks, he answered: “because that's where the money is."
We plan to map and photograph every single bank branch in the world that has deposits of greater than US$1 billion. There are 385 of them in the United States, as of June 30, 2009 based on FDIC data (I will post a list). Many of those branches are located in beautiful historical buildings (e.g., Bank of America branch at 1501 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC).
Once we complete the first stage goal, we may expand to bank branches with deposits of greater than $100 million (there are 11,875 of them in the United States), so that even members from outside the big cities can have a chance to post their own waymarks.
